[edit] Introduction

The Community View provides functionalities for building, managing and visualizing user groups and social networks. The current version of Community View provides the following functionalities:

  • Create groups
  • Add users to groups
  • Modify groups
  • Delete groups
  • Delete users from groups
  • Show group information
  • Show user information


[edit] Create groups

  • A group can be created in two different ways:

a) Select the “File” button on the upper menu bar and choose “Add - Group” from the drop down menu (see figure 1).

b) Right-click on the Community View area and choose “Add Group” (see figure 2).

  • A popup window appears and you are asked to fill in some basic information for the group you want to create (see figure 3). Fill in the title of the group, a short description and select all users you want to add to the group. Note that users can also be added to groups as well as deleted from groups retrospectively (see Modify groups). Click OK to create the group.

  • Finally, the group including links to all of its members is created (see figure 4). The blue link between user and group indicates that the user is member of the group.

[edit] Add users to groups

As described above, users can directly be added to a group when creating the group (see Create groups). Moreover, users can be added to already existing groups.

  • Currently, there are three different ways to add users to already existing groups.

a) Right-click the group and choose “Modify” (see figure 5).

b) Select the “Edit” button on the upper menu bar and choose “Modify” from the drop down menu (see figure 6).

  • A popup window appears which shows the title and description of the group as well as a list of all users that are assigned to this shared space (see figure 7). You can select and deselect users. Each selected user will be a member of the group. Note that if user to be added is missing on the list, the user must be first added to the Shared Space by using User Management tool.

  • Press OK to update the members of the selected group (see figure 8).

c) Third way to add a member to a group is to create a link between user and the group. Select the user you want to be a member of the group. Right-click and select "Add to Group". (see figure 9).

Then click the user and drag an arrow from the user to the group. (see figure 10).

[edit] Modify groups

The title, description as well as the members of an already existing group can be modified.

  • Currently, there are two different ways to update an already existing group.

a) Right-click the group and choose “Modify” (see figure 11).

b) Select the group you want to modify. Afterwards select the “Edit” button on the upper menu bar and choose “Modify” from the drop down menu (see figure 12).

  • A popup window appears which shows the title and description of the group as well as a list of all users that are assigned to this shared space (see figure 13). All information can be changed. Each selected user will be a member of the group.

  • Press OK to update the selected group.

[edit] Delete groups

  • Select the group you want to delete.
  • After selecting the group, it can be deleted in two different ways:

a) Right-click on the group and choose “Delete” (see figure 14).

b) Select the “Edit” button on the upper menu bar and choose “Delete” from the drop down menu (see figure 15).

  • The system asks if you are sure to delete the group. Press OK to confirm the question and the group will be deleted.

[edit] Delete users from groups

Users can be deleted from already existing groups.

  • Currently, there are three different ways to delete users from an already existing group.

a) Right-click the group and choose “Modify” (see figure 16).

b) Select the “Edit” button on the upper menu bar and choose “Modify” from the drop down menu (see figure 17).

  • A popup window appears which shows the title and description of the group as well as a list of all users that are assigned to this shared space. If you deselect a selected user, you will delete the user from the group (see figure 18).

  • Press OK to update the members of the selected group (see figure 19).

c) Right-click the arrow between the user and the group and select "Remove from Group" (see figure 20).
